The Way to Start September Right!

Perfect Lunch- Roast Beef Roll with Preshafruit Juice

It's been a few days into September already and I haven't really been eating the way I would want to cause I'm on my self-created diet and it's proving to be effective! So I'm happy nevertheless! Back to starting September right, as I may have mentioned before, I always grab something scrumptious to eat every Friday lunch since it's the end of the stressful week and I deserve it. On today's menu, Roast Beef Roll with Caramelized Onions and Extra Gravy. I just came across this website that displays Sydney's 10 Best Sandwiches and this happens to be second on the list! What's even better is it's located at the foodie's mecca, the David Jones Foodhall. I head to the Foodhall quite often, the variety of food that they have there is astounding. They have all the good stuff- Valrhona Chocolate, Harrod's Tea, Truffle Oils, and the other hard to find goodies. On top of that, they have oyster, grill, juice, cheese& antipasto, and gelato bars. If that doesn't count as heaven, then I don't know what does.

Anyway, the queue for the carvery was long. I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if it was actually lunch time, it was beyond lunch time, I arrived at 3! I was definitely banking on it to be shockingly good. While waiting in line, my mouth was watering. There were all these different roasted meats just shining on the food counter. The man in front of me was ordering kept repeating to the server that he wanted roast pork with crackling and applesauce. And when the server asked him if he wanted pepper, he said with crackling, with crackling, I wonder how many times he said crackling, I lost count. I on the other hand was so excited to order, I ended up saying:"Roast beef on onion gravy roll" What a FAIL.

Roast Beef Roll:)
Onto the taste test, the aroma was exhilarating, it was very peppery and savoury. The appearance is rustic and the beef is just overwhelming as it drops out of the roll, it's really really inviting. The bread has a bite to it, and it's not one of those rolls that scratch your palate as you eat. The roast beef is crazy tender and flavourful and the caramelized onions have a sweet vibe and just melt in your mouth. The gravy is the ultimate hero, it has hints of rosemary and thyme and is gorgeously rich. The bread was flaking apart because of all that extra gravy. It's ecstasy.

Epic bread, note: the black bits are pepper.

And now that I've finished writing this post, I'm craving for another roast beef roll. In my opinion, this might just be the best $9.95 I've ever spent. Yes, I would choose it over the Wagyu Beef Burger by Becasse. The Wagyu burger has more of a value for money but this one is just nostalgic and uplifting.

What's in store for tomorrow? A massive food adventure.

I love my Golden Gaytime

HOLY GOLDEN GAYTIME
Last Sunday, I went to the grocery and my grandmother gave me money to buy WHATEVER I want. I've already planned that I'll start my diet this week, so that night, I exercised a buttload of self-control- I'm not kidding. I usually love going to the grocery, checking out what's new and goodies that are on SPECIALS! Aisle after aisle, I avoided Tim Tams, Tiny Teddies, Old Gold, Green & Black's, Red Rock Deli, Grain Waves, and heaps others!

Anyway, just before we headed to the counter, we passed by the frozen food section, and there it was, SPECIAL: 4 for $20 on the Cadbury Ice Cream Selection! Who on earth could turn down an offer like that? This is where everything just FAILED MISERABLY. Despite 4 boxes of Cadbury Ice Cream, I just had to have a box of Golden Gaytime.

Biscuit Studded Goodness
Golden Gaytime is incomparable. It's a classic and has been around since the 50's. It has creamy vanilla ice cream enveloped in a layer of toffee ice cream. It is then dipped in chocolate- nothing delivers that same snap the way chocolate coated goodies do. Finally, a generous sprinkling of crunchy biscuit pieces. HOW DELIGHTFUL.

I'd eat them everyday, I don't think I'd ever get sick of them. But of course, that won't happen since I'm fat enough to begin with! I had 2 sticks of Golden Gaytime, and that has been it for me! But it's more likely that it's just two sticks, FOR NOW. Oh, I didn't touch any of the Cadbury Ice Cream! Self-Control.

Weekend breakfast

I love weekends. Weekends are my time to stretch out my legs and stay asleep and read and spend time with friends and family!! They are also my time to be a pig!

Last Saturday, seeing as I had LUXURIOUS time in my hands, I decided to make myself a pleasant breakfast! Most of my breakfasts are eaten out of tupperware, with tiny utensils (i am pleased to inform you, however, that aforementioned utensils still match, regardless of size), in a quickly moving beat-up car. My brother hates it when I eat in "his" car and he nags me to death about it.

Anyway! Going back to Saturday, we had some kesong puti from my dad's friend in Laguna, and it was raining softly outside, so I decided it was perfect time for hot chocolate and bread and cheese! :) OH YEAH.

As I've said, I love hot chocolate. Said love is so great that I've learned to make it myself, and make it WELL! I am not a fan of those pussy, weak, watery hot chocolates (I think hot chocolate is like personality-- it better be strong and lively or might as well be DEAD!! I hate people with no personality. They are like snakes... I shouldn't be derailing from my topic), they are AWFUL. I don't even allow my MILO to be watery. I put tons of tablespoonfuls of Milo into my Milo in (slightly futile) attempts to make it thick. But Milo isn't really hot chocolate, so Milo's excused.

Here's how I make my hot chocolate (it is the THICKEST and RICHEST you will ever taste):
-As many tablespoonfuls of Hershey's unsweetened cocoa as you like
-As much sugar/Stevia/Equal as you like
-Milk, be it lowfat, full cream, condensed. You can even put cream.
-Hot water

I love cooking/baking, but I must say I cook/bake like a man! I only make stews (wherein you just toss things into a huge pot and let simmer for hours) and bake roasts (wherein you toss things into a pan and shove it into the oven for hours). I'm lazy and love things that require minimal effort but give the best returns. My mom hates this trait in me, but I say, if it works... :) As you can expect from someone who is lazy, my recipe's for lazy people too!

So here's what to do:
-Get a metal pan and put it on low heat.
-Put the sugar and cocoa into the pan and mix them QUICKLY. Do not let them burn!
-Add a bit of hot water, just to make them into a thick liquid. NOT A PASTE!
-Mix QUICKLY (i told you, i cook like a man) and make sure it's all mixed up together nice and even
-Add the milk/cream! At this point you should lower the heat even more
-Time to be a girl-- stir gently and slowly!
-AND YOU'RE DONE!

*Note: because of the milk, it won't be a deep dark brown color as what you'd expect from Spanish chocolate. But it will taste just as chocolatey!

Probably the simplest, easiest, and most down-to-earth hot chocolate recipe ever, right?
YUM-O

Though I cook like a man, I am no lesbian. Observe: the pretty teacup and saucer!

Moving on, to the rest of the meal I had planned!

It was a pleasure to unwrap the kesong puti. Under layers and layers of glossy green banana leaf is this perfectly plump and fluffy bit of cheese!! I cut some nice, lush, fat slices and toasted rye bread to go with it!

Perfect kesong puti (translated: white cheese) all wrapped up in a pretty banana leaf!

Oh baby.
I hope this makes you want to marry me

Beautiful breakfast plus the Saturday paper (bad news, but I only read the lifestyle sections. I mean, why make yourself sad?)...

... makes for a very happy and fat girl! :)

Bagel: My New Obsession

My love.
Whoever invented the bagel is a genius.

It's currently 12:23 pm and I have 17 minutes before I have to catch my bus for school. But I'm way too happy and inspired to just save this blog idea for later. In the last 24 hours, I have devoured 3 bagels. Well, more like 2 1/2 since my grandmother snatched the other 1/2 from me.

It all began with the stressful Friday last week, it was then I was reunited with my love, mister bagel. Bagels are one of the best things you could ever possibly shove in your gob. They have a crunchy exterior and a doughy soft interior. I like my bagels toasted, REAL TOASTED. I adore the brown colour and the slightly burnt bits. CRUNCHY GOODNESS.

Yesterday, before heading home, I dropped by the grocery to grab some bagels. Luckily, there were some still left! I bought 2 blueberry ones and a plain one. I was ecstatic so I just had to have one for dinner. I know, I'm really weird like that. Breakfast seemed too far away.

I opted for the blueberry one, I sliced it in half then smeared some cream cheese on it then shoved it into the toaster. I toasted it for 6 minutes, but I just had to take it out by 5 because I was becoming increasingly impatient and I had to satisfy my urge. YUMMOOOO.

This morning, I had a blueberry and cream cheese one once again and this is when my grandmother snatched the other half. OH WELL. :(

And a few moments ago, I had one for lunch. I placed 2 squares of cheese, a tomato, store bought champagne leg ham, and wholegrain mustard. I even took time to take pictures. I enjoyed every single bite- it's ORGASMIC. Anyway, I feel so happy and fulfilled right now and I'm almost late for my bus! Ta!:)
