Haberfield: Dining Like an Italian.

Italian food is indescribably good. Nothing gets me hyped up like an al dente pasta with an epic sauce and some top notch gelato for dessert. We decided to go on a food trippy to Haberfield- where all the Italians are at! It's a small town but dang, there sure were some good things in store. Let me explain, and you'll surely see.

First stop: Dolcissimo for a much needed lunch fix. It was raining, it was cold, it was windy, we were very hungry. Not to worry, we didn't compromise by settling for something that we just happened to pass by. We surely had some tasty tasty food!

Pellegrino, the only way to go!

Suzhou Dimsum: One of Binondo's BEST Kept Secrets

It's been years since my family has discovered Suzhou, I wonder why I've never properly blogged about it. I had my first real/acceptable/authentic xiao long bao there. I loved it so much, my uncle and I would order a lot of them for lunch. A lot= we wouldn't eat anything else. I find it fantastic that they've opened shop in Greenhills which makes it far more convenient for yours truly!

BTW, for more go to restaurants in Binondo, click here and here!

Specialty Xiao Long Bao- P100 for 4 pieces.
Trust me, 4 are not enough.
Perfect and intricately crafted.
There's a relatively thick wrapper that envelopes the soupy meaty morsel inside. It's tasty and absolutely lovely. More often than not, I wouldn't touch a xiao long bao when I've seen the wrapper broken that's cause all the lovely juice would've dripped out. Now that's a shame.

Sambal, Lane Cove

This is what the place looks like at 6pm.

This restaurant is good, good. It's hidden behind KFC and McDonald's so you wouldn't really spot it right away, but at 6pm, the place was packed. They weren't seating anyone else until 8pm, luckily, my family had a reservation. There's a wide array of food on the menu making it ultimately suitable for anybody.

First off, Penang Char Kway Teow, it's a popular Hawker Dish. You'd think that serving hawker food in a restaurant wouldn't really work, guess again. It was every bit reminiscent of street food- the color and the oiliness of the dish contributed to that! It's a Malaysian version of the Chinese Beef Hofan.

Eggplant Stir Fried with Chilli Shrimp Paste
If you know me, you'd well know that I'd go for anything that has eggplant in it. This particular one was crunchy but silky soft inside- velvety. It was well spiced, but just in my opinion, I wanted more chilli.*

Billy Kwong, Surry Hills, Australia

Billy Kwong on Crown Street
Here goes Kylie Kwong, the woman with a telly show on the Discovery Lifestyle Channel, cooking away talking about szechuan pepper and organic produce. I'd initially think that her restaurant would be a lot bigger and it would span a larger variety of food. But it was a quite exclusive, like you'd really have to wait outside her restaurant before 5pm, in time for the opening. The day we went, it was raining and it was quite a burden to wait outside.

Hand-written Specials Menu

Some dishes on the menu are said to vary from day to day since they try to buy locally grown, organic, and biodynamic food! I found it quite interesting and apparently they just use organic produce cause it's more expensive.

It was quite cozy and packed
The waitstaff were really accommodating, and they also explained the specials that were on for the day. We took a fair amount of time making up our minds on what to order since everything looked smashingly good.
